Skills Building Workshop on Behaviour Change

SEPO, the co-ordinating body for HIV/AIDS service organisations in Livingstone, requested Peter Labouchere to facilitate a 3-day 'Skills Building Workshop on Behaviour Change' in June 2003 for 21 participants from 18 of its member organisations.  This was sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank and International HIV/AIDS Alliance

The workshop was designed so that participants first experienced the training tools and activities as participants (Day 1), then practiced using them with their peers (Day 2), then used them 'for real' in the local community (Day 3) (e.g. at a local markets, taxi rank etc), as illustrated by this photograph of participant Johnathan Kabanda of Zambia Police facilitating a session and getting a waiting taxi driver to try the Walking the Bridges activity.

The end of workshop participant evaluations (click here for a complete, unedited compilation) and feedback from participants who have used what they learnt in their HIV/AIDS programmes, suggest that the workshop methodology, content and delivery were highly effective: in the three days, the workshop substantially built the skills and confidence of participants to use a range of new training tools, materials and techniques to impact on HIV/AIDS related behaviours.
