3.What is, for you, the most important thing you have learnt during this workshop?

  • I learnt that the use of newly introduced activities is good and really helps people to understand more and well, and would attract more people.

  • The skill on how to sensitize the community with confidence and knowledge
  • The abilities to realistically demonstrate issues related to HIV/AIDS
  • How to use the tools and their explanation
  • Involvement of the community
  • Took kits we received to use in communities
  • To be able to assist people to re-focus their attention on their goals and plans
  • The use of the practical tools in conveying messages of hope
  • I can't change anybody's behavior but I can change their environment, skills, beliefs and identities [refers to Dimensions of Behaviour Change and Challenging Limiting Beliefs]
  • The idea of using simple demonstrations and tools to relate to real life situations (reminds of Jesus' teachings - proverbial - e.g. a rich man can not enter heaven - it is like a camel passing through an eye of a needle) quite easy to understand
  • I have learnt that we can actually teach people the dangers of HIV/AIDS using many different ways, not just concentrating on posters and brochures
  • Behavior change
  • I have learnt a new idea of approaching people and teach the dangers of AIDS (new style)
  • The fact that you can never change someone's behavior but can facilitate some change by changing yours - be a role model
  • Basically I would have learnt that with determination it is possible to meet challenges in life, that a person's behavior can be changed
  • It has taught me quite a great deal of bravery and confidence to talk freely and always have a goal in life
  • Walking the bridges
  • I have learned how a female condom is used
  • I have learnt skills on how to approach the people in the community to teach them on HIV/AIDS
  • Learnt detailed information on HIV/AIDS, STI (on how you can encourage the positive living to obtain the intended goals)
  • Although I had a goal set and did not know how would teach the destiny now I know I should not count the problem and have but determination
  • I have learnt a lot of things but to mention a few - how to communicate with people with HIV/AIDS and how to use female and male condoms
  • How to train some people
  • Skill building
  • How to relate to people living with HIV/AIDS
  • I have learnt new skills and I feel great

Design and Content

4.What tools / techniques / activities did you find most useful and why?

  • Bridges to the future island (crossing)

  • Bridges of hope because they are very practical, especially when you are dealing with the church
  • Walking the bridge and the HIV virus both indicate realities people face in their life
  • The white, blue and yellow bridges
  • The pictures, condoms
  • Role play
  • Futures islands and walking on bridges
  • Condom demonstrations
  • What happens to the body of someone who has HIV/AIDS
  • The future islands
  • The instinct inside me for the future.  It will help me help others in their way of life.
  • Use of the bridge and the pictures clarifying where they can fit in
  • Activities demonstration of how the body fights and gets defeated when the cells can no longer defend
  • Walking the bridge
  • Future island
  • Role play
  • How the brain works
  • Walking bridge - they help to demonstrate how conduct of someone (e.g. abstinence, faithfulness) can lead to someone achieving his/her goal in life
  • All are useful because they are participating
  • The drama that got everyone moving
  • The bridges that gave people a puzzle but got very good sense
  • The condom demo that explained was clear
  • The bridges of hope and the future island because they made me realize that having a goal in life and being determined to reach it makes you a fighter in life and can actually save your life
  • Walking through the bridges
  • Role plays
  • Bridges of hope
  • The bridges, islands, the penal model and the use of drama to send messages across also played a very important role
  • Bridges of hope because it was attractive and people come to see what is happening.  Some even left their businesses to become participants
  • HIV and the body gave a very clear picture of what exactly happens
  • Bridges inspired me
  • The characters because the community participation in identifying the characters to what they are is easy
  • The bridges of hope
  • Mostly the future island because most people have goals and this will help me teach effectively using the future island as a demonstration
  • The bridges of hope
  • White blood cells, HIV, antibodies, infections in the human body
  • The characters on the pictures
  • The future islands as they enable people to think positively about life and focus on those aspects they can achieve
  • All were useful to me as I have obtained new skills
  • Condom demonstration
  • Walks on bridges
  • Future islands
  • HIV virus into the body fight the white blood cells
  • I found the bridges most useful because they are multi-purpose in terms of articulating the different issues such as care, support and prevention
  • Bridges, river crocodiles and future islands as this installs some courage in people living careless lives, people doubting if they can achieve their goals in the near future even with the fast spread of HIV/AIDS and assuring them of a way forward
  • Walking the bridge because it was simple and straight forward even people who never went to school can easily understand
  • The bridges, role plays, these really attracted the people

5.What tools / techniques / activities did you find least useful and why?

  • I think all the things used were here useful and they really attracted people

  • Not any
  • The use of vision as a tool and the exercise of character identification on the diagrams
  • Energizers on closing eye and how you see HIV virus and talk to it respect each other and finally do this every time
  • Writing numbers and shaking hands
  • None, all the tools and techniques had useful meaning and insights
  • Condom use because the church does not accept condoms as a means of fighting HIV/AIDS
  • Drama - a bit difficult to get the audience to understand the idea
  • To be honest all the techniques and exercises we carried out really worked well for me
  • There is none all were OK
  • All of them were useful
  • The drama because in a community points of view is needed a lot of an organized audience that would be able to flow the play and also like voice projection and hope to have microphones especially when dealing with a crowd
  • All tools and techniques were used and valued because I have learnt that some exercise e.g. the brain recording some information and storing it
  • My own point of view all tools were useful in the workshop
  • None of the tools to me I found least.  All the tools were good and they are going to help the community respond positive.
  • All the tools, techniques and exercises were very useful and I think personally I have appreciated very much

6.Any suggestions for changes for future workshops?

  • I feel more days to be added so as to make the community activities in all areas etc. Nakatindi, mwandi, airport

  • The tools to include cleaning materials for use after use of condom demonstration
  • We need more tools developed because people are tired of theories and talk presentation about HIV/AIDS
  • Please invite more churches to take part
  • The facilitator should have a chance to see each and every presentation of the participants and give feedback.  I was not very comfortable with a feedback from my fellow participants.
  • It was good no suggestions
  • More days to be added
  • Make them a little longer and please include more real life training practices
  • Provision of certain tools when people have to go in the field like materials in case of sketches and microphones to draw public attention
  • You should increase the days of the skills workshop
  • It has been exciting despite the days being short
  • People in the community wanted to learn more (e.g. taxi drivers)
  • The days are short and few
  • To have many materials to give out to the community
  • Please keep it up

Facilitation

7.What did you like about the facilitation of the workshop?

  • The facilitation was excellent

  • The facilitator created a good environment for me to work in and treated all of us with respect, he's a real 'champion'
  • It has been so educative I have learnt a lot of skills
  • It was good and most issues were left for the participants to discuss and come up with one common idea
  • Full participation was encouraged
  • The presentation and demonstration of HIV issues
  • The involvement of participants in demonstration
  • Flexible and user friendly
  • Conducive atmosphere
  • Good communication and materials
  • Clear explanations
  • The facilitator was an excellent teacher
  • Quite open and free environment
  • Coverage and he spoke local language
  • He was free, knowledgeable and flexible
  • The facilitator was very accommodating and friendly and made all of us feel welcome
  • Very smart, accurate with time, supportive and understanding
  • Hardworking
  • There was a lot of activities and exercises which helped the participant not to fall asleep
  • There was vital information to use in real life situations
  • Very kind and open
  • The facilitation was good it was clear and understood.  If a participant were behind could ask and the response was good.

8.Any suggestions for how the facilitation could have been improved?

  • It was wonderful what a good facilitator can do there in nothing more than that

  • He was good as it was
  • Building more bridges of hope
  • We should have been availed the HIV real statistics in Livingstone or Zambia
  • Continue to do good
  • Bring more materials
  • The facilitation should contain more crocodiles and the future island should be more attractive
  • To have many practicals to make the participants get used
  • Keep it up even next time

9.Any other comments / suggestions?

  • It was nice.  I have also been encouraged and hope to go out and encourage more people who have lost hope.  The community should be informed earlier before the day of meeting them, this would allow people to find time and participate.

  • Facilitate more workshops to further the current knowledge acquired with the aim of equipping the educators fully and have more people attend from various areas
  • We need more of practical workshops
  • Workshop participants should package the techniques and tools depending on the specific needs of the target group
  • Please continue to improve relationships with faith-based organizations in both information and materials support
  • Please if there could be more skills to use so that the church can help the sheeps which are ignorant about the use of condoms
  • This should not be the first and last workshop
  • Hope to learn more ideas concerning behavior change
  • People need to change because they know about AIDS now
  • The few mentioned that when the next workshop is carried out please take note of the importance of microphones if can be easily accessed
  • It has been a good time having attended and learnt a lot of things in this workshop
  • Refresher courses to be done accordingly
  • We should come and learn more
  • We wish this kind of training cover the whole nation so that people would get the message.
